That is pretty much what has occurred with me. They did however ask me to send my bank interest figures in this year which I assume helped to get my 25/6 done earlier.

Odd - are you saying that they asked you for your 2025/26 interest after the end of the tax year, for a non self-assessor? If so, what prompted them to do this?
My understanding is that (outside SA) they rely on the interest data submitted by the banks for the previous tax year, even though you can update current year figures for the purposes of calibrating PAYE tax codes to reflect projected full year income…

WFH allowance for employees was abolished from 6 April 20026

I wrote to them in early June asking for some clarification on a couple of issues not relating Savings Interest and maybe that triggered something but I got a letter from them mid June with a BBSI form for 25/6 which I completed. I assumed they were trying to get ahead of the game and getting some done before the September/October rush which thought would be a good idea and happy to oblige . Perhaps I'm giving them to much credit.

Isn't that just standard nowadays, if you have questioned something which might mean a year needs reviewing before the information provided by the banks has arrived HMRC will ask you for the details they need to finalise things for that tax year.
In the meantime the actual information from the banks could well have been received but it presumably wasn't available when they asked you for that level of detail.

No idea but as I said, I was happy to do it and I also paid tax due which I could have held onto for months (like a moneyexperter should do!) and get it all completed.

I completed that form on April and my amendment was done in August.
