Help! Ccj warrantof control

I have just received in the mail a letter telling me that bailiffs will call on 22nd of this month. It's for a ccj that I didn't know I had from 2022, the creditors is intrum poplar designated activity company. I've never heard of them.

In 2010 I separated from my them wife and found myself briefly homeless and with no money. I couldn't afford to pay my debts and so stopped paying them, all my money was going on rent. I'm pretty sure this debt will be statute barred and would have been statute barred when the ccj was issued. I don't have any money to pay this bill as I was unable to work for 12 weeks this year due to a hip replacement and unable to claim any benefits

What should i do

Thanks

Challenging a ccj from 2022 is tricky but not impossible. Do you know what this debt started life as?

Is this the court bailiff or a private firm? If the latter, can you name the firm?

I can say more when I know more. But the general advice is to keep external doors locked, park away from where you live, and do not engage.

Just to echo what fatbelly mentions above, bailiffs cannot force entry to private property for this kind of debt.

But they can enter by peaceful means, through an unlocked door for example, so keep doors locked, don`t under any circumstances allow them entry, if you keep them outside, they can`t do anything, this is so important, as once inside, the warrant of control can be acted on, and they can voucher and remove your assets, and then re-enter at will.

We're assuming that Intrum bought some old Consumer Credit debt and that this is the local Court Bailiff. But that could be wrong

  • It's a county court bailiff, is there a way of finding out who the original debt was with?

You can email the court with your name, address and court reference, and ask for the particulars of claim. That's as much as you will find out without engaging with Intrum.
