Insurance claim for concrete wall repair

Our wall was damaged by delivery firm, who have agreed their fault. Their insurance has agreed to pay but require detailed quote from builders.

Cannot find a local builder willing to give such a quote.

Any other options

Maybe the insurer could suggest some companies?

Does annoy me that companies in this situation are quick to admit responsibility (good thing) but then expect the injured party to be the one running around finding quotes etc

We had a Royal Mail van park on and subsequently make a right mess of a grassed area we own - was a nightmare to get quotes etc

Surely the onus should be on them to do all the chasing

If there was an issue with any repairs in the future - would the responsible company have a get out by saying “not our problem guv, you found the company”

The law requires the injured party to substantiate their claim including quantum so no, the onus is on the claimant not the defendant.

We clearly have no idea either their insurance only does motor or does property too and similarly no idea if the OP lives in central London or on some remote Scottish island. It's not realistic to expect every company to maintain a network of repairers that cover everywhere in the world their vehicles may travel.

Buildings claims in Motor insurance are relatively rare, far from unheard of but in my initial claims days I'd probably have about 4-5 a year. My employers at the time however did go a step further and gave two (out of 15) of us access to the Home claims system which meant that for bigger claims (our insured has ended up in someone else's living room) we could instruct one of our loss adjusters who would have access to network repairers. The threshold changed with the seasons but repairing/replacing a single post probably wouldnt have met it in even the quietest season

“insurance have agreed to pay”. To pay who ?

Get the job done and bill them. If you can find a local builder willing to do the job.

Thats almost literally what the insurers have said, the OP says they cant find someone willing to do the job

What has the OP asked for quotes to do?

Has the OP asked for the wall to be repaired, implying (whether implicitly or not) that they just want the surface render fixed? That might be unattractive to the trader as they can't see until the render is removed to allow making good whether the wall is damaged through and the actual top at risk of failure.

If the OP asks for a repair and indicates a willingness for a comprehensive job to take down the pillar and rebuild then a trader might be more happy because they can be sure of the quality of the end outcome.

No trader wants to repair a wall surface render and then leave themselves exposed if the top of the pillar is weak and risk of falling which could cause further damage or injury.

Obviously, that comprehensive approach will result in a higher quote but provide that to the insurer for agreement in advance of instructing the work. If the insurer thinks that is too expensive or more than is required, then the insurer can arrange for their own appointed trader to attend and quote.

Did you actually look at the picture .

A full repair has been authorised but the insurance company require a detailed quote, local firms do not give that level of detail.

Pay for quote, or quotes on the understanding that if work is given to trader that the price of quote is reimbursed.

Play with the expectation of winning not the fear of failure.    S.Clarke
