Legal Aid & Advantis

I’m not sure if anyone has any experience or can signpost me in the right direction. Being chased for a Capital Contribution order of nearly £150k that I knew nothing about regarding Legal Aid from a company called Advantis. Thought it was a scam but unfortunately it’s not. All relating to a historic court case (don’t judge) to which I received legal aid (alongside a £20k contribution). I didn’t know the CCO existed until I started receiving random text messages from Advantis. Really struggling to find any sort of help and super stressed. Appreciate any help, guidance etc

It will be the amount you owe for your legal aid after being found guilty, and will have been calculated based on your assets (and those of your partner if you have one). You can either pay it, try and make an arrangement to pay it i installments, or contest it. Maybe try a debt support charity, or maybe a charity like Unlock: https://unlock.org.uk/

How long ago was the case, and you know if they have already taken any collection processes such as a charge on a property?

Have they explained how the sum has been calculated, because getting a copy of the agreement in checking that would be my first step.

Pedant alert - it's could have not could of.

What date was the order issued?

This is very important as this type of debt is subject to the limitation act, and your liability expires six years after the order was issued.

Please talk urgently to National Debtline on 0808 808 4000.

CCOs are complicated and not suitable for generic advice on a public forum.
