I have a 5 year ILG ladder in a SIPP to protect funds which will be used to pay for day to day spend, bills, tax etc. Reason being I can sleep OK without worrying too much about how to live in the event of a future market crash, plus the funds are protected from any rapidly rising inflation.

I have a separate SIPP for investments - the jolly fund - which is reserved for holidays, new cars, and emergencies - new roof, divorce! etc. It does OK, but it is wholly at the mercy of the markets.
