going dairy free

I am wondering if dairy is causing me stomach cramps and excessive toilet going.

I wondered if anyone has tried going dairy free and if it made any difference, also recommend alternative products if necessary??

ok so i tried this this morning and my first problem is a cup of tea, a standard m and s english breakfast tea bag just gets so strong and dark within seconds, and leaves scum all up the mug.

has anyone that does this found a black tea that works well without milk , or do you just drink other drinks or other teas such as peppermint ?

We use soya , but it can be hit and miss as some brands are thin and runny and some thick and leave heavy scum in the last bit of the tea. Our preferred brand is Tesco sweetened.

Also just the usual reminder about MSE rules and straying into 'medical' advice.

You don't have to drink it black, there are all sorts of non dairy milks available. You do need to try several to see what you like; I only like soya milk and even then brands vary greatly and many are sweetened.

For a tea to drink black, try Tea pigs. Yes they are a lot more expensive but you get what you pay for. Personally I buy single estate Assam from The Loose Leaf Tea Company, but you might balk at paying over £40 a kilo for tea 😁

Also if you get scum on black tea that's not the tea, it's the hard water you're using

ah yeah i have jus bought a filter so that should solve the scum problem!

i really cant see myself drinking soya or oat milk etc

can you buy fresh lactofree milk?

tea pigs is an option, i'll check in waitrose, i also wanted to ask about the other black teas

such as darjeeling, assam, etc what are these like,

i'd rather pay more for a quality experience as i only drink 2 or 3 a day so might as well enjoy!!

Yes you can buy fresh lactofree milk, it lasts well and is quite reasonably priced at Aldi or the supermarkets that price match to Aldi, 99p for a litre. Our Aldi only has semi skimmed but our Tesco had skimmed or whole (but whole is more expensive).

I like green tea for drinking without milk.

Any particular reason you think its milk/lactose thats causing the issues? Its certainly worth a try but could all manner of things either related to a food type or not.
