Bad milk mystery

I've used the last of a two-day old bottle for cereal and it's been fine, then put today's milk in coffee and seen curds floating in it, so it's definitely not the fridge. Poor storage somewhere in the supply chain seems the most likely explanation, I just wish a) there was some way of knowing before it's too late, and b) it happened as frequently as it did a year ago, which is to say never.

There were reports of this a few years back, posters on here getting milk from ALDI and complaining it was in date, but going off "I'm going to shop at Morrisons from now on!" and then the v.versa story of people shopping at Morrisons … now trying ALDI.
I was in the latter category, and found that both were supplied by Arla Dairies, and both were not lasting well. It was not my fridge (independent thermometer with min-max-alarm retrofitted). So somewhere there was a handling/storage failure that affected both stores.
Not had problems in a long while, but then I now tend to buy-ahead, decant on day of purchase, and freeze, to take advantage of a 6 pinter (about 3 weeks to me) being cheaper than 3 x 2 pinters.

I had this happen about 4 times now and the last time I took it out of the fridge and put it on the counter, went to answer the phone and it literally exploded all over my kitchen!

Most times my milk is past expiry for a couple of days and it's fine, beginning of the month had one open for 2 weeks and still lasted 5 days after expiry. Yet my last milk from Lidl only lasted a few days opened and well within date, it must be a few years since that last happened.

That is a serious collection of noxious gases!! Definitely look at your fridge temperature!
I bought 2L (=3.5 pints) of FF for 38p yesterday evebing knowing full well it was half way to yoghurt. It never occurred to me that it might explode, but I would have noticed of the packaging felt stretched. This morning I turned it into a load of paneer 😁

Only remember having a problem once a few years ago. This summer we went away and about an hour down the road I asked MrsM if she had poured the milk away - Nope ! Got home 9 days later and it was well out of date but had not started separating - didn't risk a sniff test though.
Never associate with idiots on their own level, because, being an intelligent man, you'll try to deal with them on their level - and on their level they'll beat you every time.
Being hated by idiots is the price you pay for not being one of them.
