Uber One Subscription: Were you signed up without permission?
I ordered an Uber Ride on 30th May 2026, which I paid for in full. This is the last time I used Uber for any service.
On 31st May 2026, I was signed up for a trial period on Uber One. To be clear, I did not sign up for Uber One and there is nothing in the receipt of my ride of the previous day to say by using Uber I would be signed up for a subscription service.
Uber did not contact me to tell me I had been signed up for the trial subscription nor did the company inform me that the trial was coming to an end so I would be paying for the service. Monthly, from June 26th, 2026, Uber withdrew money from my account without my permission.
I found out that I was an Uber One member only by examining my bank statements.
I have cancelled the subscription and contacted Uber to request a refund. They are responding with glib company policy.
Have you had a similar experience? Can anything be done to stop Uber signing people to their subscription without permission? Is the practice legal? Is there any way to be refunded?

My guess is that you could ask them for a copy of their contract with you. I think there is something which states that you have to actively opt in to a service rather than looking for how to opt out - which if you don't know about the service then you wouldn't look to opt out!
You should tell the bank that it was an unauthorised transaction and as such it should be up to your bank to refund you and then chase for the money from Uber. I've had to do this a couple of times with both my bank and a credit card and have been successful.

I suspect you did sign up to Uber One.
When you use Uber, the offer for a free trial of Uber One presents for your acceptance, maybe more than once. It could be easy to simply click the "yes" button.

as a previous poster said, the option to sign up is a screen before booking where you can click yes or no. You probably clicked yes which then signed you up. It’ll be hard to fight it.

Thanks to Brie, Grumpy_chap and Penguins4ever36 for responding.
Good news! I got my money back and this is how I did it:
When I found the Uber One subscription payment leaving my account, I immediately cancelled the subscription. I kept a record of cancellation.
I then approached Uber for evidence I had signed up for Uber One. They responded to every request but without supplying that information and refused to refund the subscriptions already paid. I kept a copy of these chats.
I approached my bank with this information, explaining that I had not signed up for the subscription trial that Uber One claimed I had, that they provided no evidence that I had and that they had provided no notification or receipts for withdrawing money from my account. My bank resolved the issue and the fees paid have been refunded.
I remain really concerned that Uber signed me up for a trial to their subscription service without my permission. The last legal transaction with Uber was a ride I ordered which I paid for, in full. I wasn't offered any deals. The Uber One subscription trail began the following day. I wasn't notified. When the trail finished, without any notification, Uber withdrew money from my account every month for 3 months. This practice, if not illegal, is most certainly immoral. Keep checking your bank accounts for shady subscription practices.
