Can't get into my Amazon account
Hi,
EDIT»NOW SOLVED….DON'T KNOW HOW BUT JUST NOW SOLVED , MANY THANKS «ENDofEDIT
I have been buying off Amazon for years but now cant get into my account.
Whilst i tried to log in with my laptop by first submitting my email and password, It then said it sent a code to my mobile phone and to use whatsapp to get it…but thats no good to me as my mobile phone is a dumbphone [i do have a smart phone but Amazon dont know its number, (it doesnt have a SIM) and i only use it in places where there is free wifi , if at all]
Anyway, i accidentally clicked "resend code" totally forgetting that i dont have whatsapp…so i then click "send SMS"…but then it tells me i've had too many ID codes sent for one day so tough luck.
Is there any way round this…?..i desperately need to order some eye glass's for work.
There doesnt seem to be any way to contact Amazon, unless one logs in…but i am locked out…at least for the day it seems?….possibly more?
————Is it worth actually using my other email address to set up a new account with Amazon and do it like that?Comments

If they’re telling you you’ve used too many codes for one day that implies you can try again on another day. Surely waiting another few hours is not going to make that much difference?
They do have an option to request a call back. Can you see that without logging in? It’s on their help pages.

For someone who professes to be in a high tech industry you don't half make life difficult for yourself.

Thanks, i logged in, then clicked "resend code" once, then "send SMS" once…and it told me i was locked out……..that seems a bit quick to lock someone out?
I wonder if its because im not "Amazon Prime"?

Nothing to do with not being Prime, just the quick 2 requests via separate mediums is a classic hackers way in
Why on earth don't you do what everyone else does and use a smartphone and apps. Logging in via a laptop is the least secure method.

EDIT» NOW SOLVED, MANY THANKS «END OF EDIT
Thanks, but its the "next day" now, and i just tried to log in, and clicked "send SMS"…and it didnt give me a chance…immediately told me i'd had too many attempts for today.
Surfing Amazon on a smartphone is pretty horrendous……the bigger screen of a laptop is much better.
My Smartphone has no SIM, so has no number.
Amazon are basically now saying that they dont want customers who dont have a smartphone!!! (And even if you have a smartphone, they still dont want you if you dont have a smartphone with a number)
I dont think its possible to get a smartphone number without paying for a smartphone contract?
I cant find any help pages on Amazon, and no telephone number to ring up. (with my dumbphone).
I cant understand why Amazon have assumed that my phone number was a smartphone?
SOLVED…..
Well…just kept pummeling away at the buttons on Amazon and somehow it eventually did send a code to my dumbphone……no technique or skill used…just blindly banging away on the screen buttons till it worked.
Why on earth don't you do what everyone else does and use a smartphone and apps. Logging in via a laptop is the least secure method.
Thanks, but i think if you do Laptop and "send code to email" or "send code as text to phone", then surely its OK?…….Smartphones are absolutely awful…who wants to be constrained to that horrible tiny screen and titchy glass keyboard?
They are trying to move Tax Returns to smartphone….can you imagine how awful that would be?…trying to fill in a Tax Return on a titchy smartphone screen.

Well said faringdon, I fully agree with you about smart phones, and isthisforreal99 comment about everyone else using one is incorrect, I can type a lot faster on PC, so only use my smartphone for shopping apps. I use a basic mobile for calls and texts, but as I also have my gmail on the smart phone somehow Amazon picked that up (invasion of privacy?), and changed my communication settings without my consent. When I was able to get back into Amazon I went into my settings and changed it back to receiving a text message.

Given the prevalence of two factor authentication which is popping up for most things, do you not think it’s time you joined the modern world and got a basic smartphone with a cheap payg sim if you don’t want a contract.
How do you manage banking?
Also pondering whether when you hit a Work problem bashing away at something till you get it right is one of your problem-solving techniques? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Thanks, im not expert with smartphones, but i can do 2FA on it using connection to internet via my mobile router. Also, if i go to my Bank i find it better to look at my statement on a big screen, not the smartphone screen. I'm not needing to be in and out of my bank account all the time.
I think cheapest payg SIM is £10 for one month(?)…that would indeed give me a phone number for the smartphone. Then if i dont bother topping up i keep the phone number but just cant make calls outwards, but can still receive inward calls?

No if you don’t make any chargeable calls for a certain period of time you will lose the number. You need to look for the type of sim where you don’t have to top up every month, and you just send the odd text message to keep it active. You usually have to make a call or send a text or do something chargeable about every 180 days also but you also need to check that the credit doesn’t expire in that time.
Have a look at Giffgaff, I think they do something like that. If you do a proper search there will be others.
