Is it easier to find a part-time job rather than a full-time one?
Hi all.
Due to circumstances, I don't really need a full-time job.
As per the thread title, is it easier to find a part-time job rather than a full-time one?
Or will companies in general prefer employees to be there most of the day (i.e 9-5 etc..).
Thanks.

it really depends on the needs of the business. There isn’t a straightforwards answer either way.

I found that part time they still want you available to cover for sickness, holiday and busy times. So it's sort of have their cake and eat it. But if you have other income that doesn't require your attention it could be good.
You might want to look into holiday and sickness and how that might affect you.

I agree with @twopenny point re availability outside contracted hours. If not careful one could find they are at the employers beck and call for a full time equivalency.
Not for me unless it was agreed I could veto for any reason!

It all depends on looking for an appropriate role, or already having a job-share buddy.
My previous engineering business they'd only ever advertise FT posts, though people could reduce hours when winding down to retirement. They were generally good at honouring PT workload in my team.
I now work for a church where several roles are PT (though a couple of years ago they couldn't recruit a PT person and bolted 2 together to make FT).
I guess you need to let potential employers know that you're available for PT work as they may not think anyone wants less than FT roles.

part time could be less hours a day or reduced number of days worked in a week, or a combination of both.
My neighbour works 5 hours a day on 4 days a week.

Part time work tends to be minimum wage rather than full time salaried roles.
Obviously minimum wage posts are available to a broader spectrum of people than salaried roles that require qualifications,
It is unusual for salaried roles to be offerred at less than full time hours though some employees suggest that all roles are available to job share

The Civil Service is a huge employer and many of their staff were part timers, at least they were when I worked there. Depending on the OP's skillset it might be an option.

It's usually easier to find whatever kind of job you're not looking for.
A lot of life is like this.
