What's the point of John Lewis' price guarantee?
Saw an iPad on sale on Amazon for £329. So I bought it from John Lewis and asked them to price match it. They declined on the grounds that their warranty is 2 years, and from Amazon it's 1 year.
I'm just a bit lost as to what they think they are offering otherwise? Why do they think consumers would ask them to price match? Why wouldn't I just buy it from Amazon then lol and save myself the trouble of having to complete their form asking for a partial refund? Serious question, not sure what the advantage to ordering from them otherwise would be?

£409, so an extra £80. Probably not as it's about 25% of the item price.

apple care for certain items can be as much as £80 a year so John Lewis would be right if that's the case

OP could have saved themselves the trouble of filling in that claim form if they'd bothered to read the terms
When price matching Apple products, we will only match those sold by Apple directly. We will also price match Apple products sold by one of our named competitors if they offer a minimum 2 year guarantee as standard at no additional cost (at the time of going to print, no competitors currently do so).

This sounds like a 2025 iPad 11. Today’s price from JL is £409, best price from Amazon it is £399 for a pink one, all other colours are also £409 so JL wins hands down with the extended warrantee.

They will price match on like for like.
As the warranty is different that gives them, rightly, the get out.

Yep, probably could've saved myself the time by reading the terms and conditions. But as I've already said, the whole idea of the price matching makes no sense, and somebody is yet to explain why anyone would try get JL to price match instead of just buying directly from their competitor if they're going to only pricematch on like for like warranties?

You miss the point. The whole idea of price matching is as a piece of marketing for JL.

It makes sense if the item you want is price matched and you want to buy it from John Lewis. Like for like price matches can be useful.
