Do you ever get a reminder for Council Tax?

Almost forgot, Santander give me 1% cashback for paying my CT by DD, so that's fifty-quidsworth of good reason.

I set up a standing order for the year when I get the details - no way am I letting them take money from my account! Then that’s that. I often set it for the 2 or 3 of the month and have never had an issue.
I pay most things by direct debit, but I’ve had issues with my council tax before so I don’t let them decide how much they want to take - I prefer it to be correct.0 -
I have been paying my council tax (and community charge before that) by DD since 1990 without problem. There was one month where there was a major computer glitch and they failed to take payment from thousands but that was resolved with them recalculating over the rest of the year and issuing a new bill with the option of paying the missing payment. One of my relative won't pay by DD as the council might steal her money so has to travel 10 miles to the nearest post office and stand in the queue for ages to pay. I know what works for me !
Never associate with idiots on their own level, because, being an intelligent man, you'll try to deal with them on their level - and on their level they'll beat you every time.

There's a guy who had a spat with my LA years ago (maybe still does) who after losing a couple of court cases decided that the way to spite the Council was to pay his CT every month at City Hall in Pound coins. Think he was rather annoyed when the LA said "fair enough".
Whatever happened to writing a cheque on the side of a cow?

A lot of councils have closed their payment counters and gone to on line and third party payment providers - post office, paypoint etc - so the ability to do that sort of thing has now gone.
