Alfa Challenger 1960s problem

Does anyone know which bobbin case to use?

I've tried the usual Singer type but it doesn't lock and the needle hits it at its lowest point.

Think it's called an Alfa Challenge.

This site lists spares including the bobbin case.

That does look like mine. It just won't fit!

@Frith - pardon me for asking, have you just got this machine, or have you used it loads? I used to have an electric machine (can't remember the brand - definitely NOT s1nger) that had a bobbin like that. You lifted up the flap (on the top of the bobbin), to position the bobbin into the circle, and then turned it…… (I'm going to guess clockwise) until it 'clicked' down. You then let the flap drop back down.

Please forgive me if you know all this - I seem to recall having issues with the bobbin if you didn't get it "just right"

I've just been given it and there was no bobbin case, nor any bobbins, at all. I ordered my best guess.

Ah, I see - so @flaneurs_lobster 's post indicates you've bought the right sort. Is there an obvious groove where the 'arm' goes, and does the bobbin either click down, or twist and click down?

It appears you can get PDF copies of the machine manual online, and a Utuber called Tia Drysdale seems to have videos of various Alfa models working - sadly it looks like it is just sewing, not being set up.

    I did download the manual.

It could be that the bobbin housing is damaged but I'm not sure how that could have happened.
