New unknown debt- not sure.

18 months ago I started an IVA, and assumed all my debts were on it. Nothing on credit record left out so as far as I'm aware the iva covers everything.

Then had an text at the start of last week out of the blue from a company called Opos. Told me I had a debt and to call a number. Assumed it was a scam and moved on.

Then on friday I had an email from the same company. Initially I thought it was a slightly more sophisticated scam and did nothing.

Now I'm second guessing myself on this. Is this something to deal with, or ignore? I've had no letter from them ever. Creditors rarely offer a 40% discount so I'm not sure what to make of it.

On the information they've given you, this could be anything. Literally. It might not even be yours. I would continue to ignore until you get a letter. And if that doesn't identify what it is, then send a prove-it

  • Thanks. My inclination was to ignore. But wanted to check with folks that are more knowledgeable than me.

An upfront, 40% reduction, instantly tells me this could be a very old debt, that may or may not be yours.

Some companies buy up old, statute barred or otherwise unenforceable accounts and try their luck with them.

The clue is the big initial discount, with enforceable debts they don`t usually do that.

    I`m with fatbelly on this.
