making black coffee at home

" So I have one small black coffee with breakfast, made
with a small stove-top espresso-maker and Lavazza coffee,
and that’s it. One 250g pack, which costs £3, makes at least
30 delicious coffees. That’s ten pence each. Three quid for
a month of coffee."

What will I need to do the above?

A moka pot (if your hob is compatible) and ground coffee (or beans if you own a grinder)

not entirely sure I understand the question. It would seem obvious you need a stove top espresso maker (And the stove top of course) and a pack of ground coffee.

personally I use a cafetiere - less faff.

I have, in the distant past, made coffee in a pot on the stove. cup full of water, spoonful of ground coffee, boil for a couple of minutes. strain into cup. drink!

Using a cafetiere is very similar in that you put the ground coffee in the cafetiere, top with boiling water and leave it to brew for a couple of minutes. The top on the things has a plunger to push the coffee to the base and a strainer. easy to clean up as you just rinse it out in the sink. I do sometimes refill the cafetiere with cold water and pour the slop in the flower beds as it's supposed to add fibre to the soil and control slugs.

cafetiere's come in different sizes. if it's just you (I think that's right from other posts) then get the smallest one so you make one cup at a time.

We also have a pod machine which are dead easy to use. Watch for Lidl/Aldi having them available so you can get one at a minimal price (£40?). Lidl sells own brand pods 20 for £2.89ish? So 14p a cup.

The smaller the better I guess. Artisans will tell you that only the Bialetti brand will do, but essentially you're just brewing coffee with hot water and pressure

I'm not a fan of stove top espresso machines ever since we had one explode. Fortunately the OH had just walked out of the kitchen so there were no fatalities. I did end up having the mop the kitchen ceiling and clean up the coffee that had been blasted into the various kitchen cupboards.

Be interested where you can buy 250g of Lavazza for £3, it's generally around £5-6 in the supermarkets.

I was about to ask the same, even Aldi's own ground Columbian is £3 something, Lavazza more £6-7 these days. And wouldn't make 30 espressos unless you like them like dish water

If you don't have a grinder, look for coffee with a medium-fine grind. Many will state "made for Moka / Stovetop" on the packaging which makes things easier.
