Train ticket refund for abandoned journey due to delay

Looking at this national rail page https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/help-and-assistance/compensation-and-refunds/ it states:

If your train is delayed or cancelled and you choose not to travel or are unable to complete your journey, your unused ticket can be refunded without any fees by the original retailer

But I can't find any additional information on the conditions for this to apply. Is there a limit as to how much the train needs to be delayed before you decide not to travel and request a refund? I assume a couple of minute delay to the departure time you wouldn't be able get a refund, but at what point can you? 30 mins? 1 hour?

There are no further conditions. It is the passengers right to abandon a journey at any time they feel it will cause disruption to their plans.

It is highly unlikely a two minute delay would do so on a point to point service, but that two minute delay may be enough to break minimum connection time at an intermediate station and a connection could be missed so the journey is abandoned after the trip has started.

Thanks. The delay in question was around 40 minutes to departure so I'm hopeful that I'll be able to get my money back on the unused ticket as I decided not to travel.

I assume that if I booked another ticket to my destination for a different train then I can still claim the refund on my original ticket? When it states "you choose not to travel' I assume it means on the service your ticket was for, not that you would just not travel full stop.

You will be able to get a refund from the original seller. Just tell them the train was delayed 40 minutes and you abandoned the trip.
