Northern rail offer

I regularly travel along a route, solely operated by Northern Rail and have an online account, which I use to buy my tickets. I received an email from Northern about an offer of a free day pass, if I completed six journeys (return journeys counted as two) with them during the month of July. I booked online for four return journeys and completed those journeys. I knew that my journeys had to be verified by passing through the barrier at the station or by the conductor on the train. Every one of my eight journeys were clicked by the onboard conductor. I received an email from Northern half way through July to say "nearly there". When it got to early August I did not receive my free pass and I questioned it, to be told that I did not qualify because my journeys had not qualified because I needed that to be done as I have described. I had evidence of purchase and made sure that my tickets were clicked on during those journeys (it is not always the case). If I had not qualified due to not having my tickets scanned, then that would have meant that my tickets were missed on at least three times. It was all a scam by Northern Rail.
