Bonus / Notice
Hi
I work for a company where we receive a profit related bonus, paid in December, based on the performance of the company for the previous financial year (April 25 to March 26)
We are typically paid on the last working day of the month
The only 'rules" of the scheme are a) you are still employed by the company at the time of payment and b) there are no disciplinary actions against you
I have a 3 month notice period
If I handed my notice in on the 30th September with a view to my last day of employment being 31st December, is there anything my employer can do to prevent me receiving this payment?
I have been there 10 years and am on good terms so not expecting any skullduggery, just looking from the company's perspective
Many thanks

I'd double check the rules. Many places actually have it that you can't have handed in your notice to receive a bonus payment. But assuming you are right and you could still get it again - double check. 3 months or 90 days? Maybe hand in your notice after discussing it with HR/manager and don't put it in writing until mid October.

As long as you qualify based on the bonus scheme rules you should be fine.
It's worth bearing in mind that most bonus schemes are considered discretionary, which means the employer can change the rules when they want and there is no legal right to you receiving the bonus. If your employer doesn't have a history of messing employees around when it comes to the annual bonus then I don't think there's much of a risk to you.
