Train travelcards and ticketing sites ('discount' deleted)
This may be useful to know for the ethnical consumer.
A colleague last year mentioned various travel websites they use to buy cheaper train tickets. When I looked into them I found almost all are owned by Chinese entities and/or with HQs based in China/HK

why is this a concern? I know that not everyone likes dealing with Chinese companies for various reasons but what makes these sort of sites suspect?

What sites offer cheaper train tickets than those offered by the train operating companies?
Things that are different: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid0 -
I decided not to list them, but the ones purporting to be UK owned companies that I can't find information to the contrary, are: Raileasy Ltd (Trainsplit), Split My Fare (but partial information available on dysfunctional website); TrainTickets.com;
RedSpottedHanky (French/European)
I don't use any of the above as I consider my data more valuable than a discount.

The companies that you have listed don't offer discounts - they just point you in the direction of fares that are widely available through the train operating companies. I use the 'split fare' sites to identify a good price, then go direct. No personal data is shared.

I consider them in the same way I consider certain fast fashion website/apps from the same country. Ethical consumers will know the reasons why some will not purchase items made or produced in that country.Free thinker.:cool:0 -
Good point about my misuse of 'discount'. I think one non-UK company offers a points system that acts as a discount on ticket purchases if I remember correctly 😏
I suppose it depends on what security you have used on your device and browser/app too?

Easy solution is to buy direct from the TOC some of whom offer up split tickets as standard, if available.
