@ClashCityRocker1's comment about high employer contributions allowing you to use carry forward of the AA presumably does not apply where the OP has triggered the MPAA. So the OP could not say to the employer may I sacrifice £10k plus all my unused AA from the last 3 years and avoid an AA charge.

who was talking about DB pensions here? You're now using a very niche example that appears to have no relevance to this thread, to try and make your earlier very broad statement appear correct!

I would have thought it was important, but it is true that if you only count personal contributions to a DC scheme then tax relief is limited to your earned income so if that is under £60K there is no need to use carry forward.
