First year of retirement
Dear diary and all,
I am starting this diary as a record of my first year in retirement. OH and I both officially retire at the end of August, at the moment we are on annual leave until then. There is quite a lot of advice about the financial planning aspects approaching retirement, but I have found less about the reality of what happens when you do retire. I intend to record the process we go through over the coming months and how we adjust our lives both financially and otherwise.
Like many in our age group, OH and I are going to rely on a mix of DB, DC and state pension. I am approaching 60 (I am 60 in November), and OH is 58. We are going to have to fund the bridge using a combination of DB and DC. I will post a bit more about the finances in a later post
I hope you will join me on this first year!

Best thing I ever did - but one thing you will realise is that time seems to go much quicker

I wouldn't yet say that it is going more quickly than when I was still working.

Some days do, some days dont. The complete freedom to choose what to do with your day is however priceless in my view.

Look forward to reading about your adventures.
You’re about 10 years ahead of me. Lots of learning for me too.

Similar position. The OH just retired at 54 and I am on 3 days at 57. I'm looking at 58 next summer as a finish date but reserve the right to change my mind, although my 4 day weekend feels nice at the moment.
