l think the best present would be sweets.....and a movie
the child/children can eat the sweets while visting there new brother/sister
then go home and watch a movie (they get time to watch on there own) and
you can settle the new baby in

I gave a gift to my son (a sand digger truck for his sand pit) when my daughter was born 13 years ago. He was so pleased! I also bought several little gifts which I put in a cupboard at home so that if a visitor brought a present for the baby he didn't feel left out (he was only 2). We have carried on the tradition where they still get a small gift (book, cd, etc) on each others birthdays.

We did the same thing for our oldest when his brother arrived, I can't remember what we got him but he was thrilled with it.

When my 2nd son was born, the then eldest was 2yrs and he got some sweets when he came to visit and a thomas magazine.And a mini trampoline (£15) when we got home from hospital.

when my twins were born, we got the then 5 and 3yrs olds, a thomas/fireman sam magazine, and a lollipop each and a "love to love bear"-(which was £7 from argos with a little bottle they could feed the bear with.) Both times we put the sweets/presents by the baby/babies and said it was from them.

Both times we also made sure someone rang to tell us they were on there way into the hospital, so i was able to make a real fuss of them when they arrived, and my family/friends were all great, and along with the twins presents, most people put a little packet of sweets in for each of the boys or a small big brother present for them. This went down really well.

I got my ds a t shirt printed up with BIG BROTHER on the front and little one had LITTLE BROTHER on his. My son loved it and showed off the t shirt more than his bro !!!
