Spooky season is nearly upon us, and what better excuse to unleash your imagination with a terrifying tale? We're asking budding writers to share their short stories (1200 words max) on the theme of Halloween. It could be ghouls and ghosts, haunted houses, or maybe even a chilling thriller. Whatever horror you come up with, we can't wait to read it. We will select one standout winner to win £500, and two runners-up will each receive £200. All three stories will be published in a future edition of Best.
Send your story along with your name, email address and phone number to bestfiction@hearst.co.uk with "Halloween Fiction 2026" in the subject title by 1 October 2026.
