do trainline train tickets have a fixed time?

LNER may want to know which train you think you are travelling on so that they can try to reserve you a seat (many of their own services have compulsory seat reservations) but depending on the type of ticket you may not need to travel on that particular train. the cheapest ADVANCE tickets restrict you to a particular train, while OFF-PEAK tickets will have some rush-hour restrictions on weekdays and ANYTIME tickets allow travel on any train on the route selected.

the reason lots of people avoid Trainline is that although the fares for your journey are the same as on other sites, they charge an extra fee unless you are buying a ticket for the same day.

So far I've paid only £1 more.

A cheap ticket on this occasion would be £13-15. I'd rather book an off-peak for £19. And from Stansted to Tottenham Hale I don't think there is a peak time in the afternoon.

But that's £1 you didn't need to pay...
