Dukes Baillifs help!!

Need some advice please.
Unpaid council tax bill - long story short - was studying to be a nurse, didn’t update them (became a single parent, struggled financially etc.) and got a bill of £1268.19.

I have done an income and expenditure form which leaves me with a disposable income of £93. I am also a single parent and private rent so they are aware it is just my income.

They want me to pay £113 and then £105 for 11 months which leaves me in a deficit.

I have offered £50 a month. They have told me 24 months is the maximum they can do and are now demanding my bank statements to prove I “feel this is unaffordable” despite giving quite a detailed incoming and outgoings, which I don’t really want to send over.

Is this right? Is there any legislation/rights that protect me here?

What can I say back to them?

If your income and expenditure projections are accurate, why not send them your bank statements to prove it? If they are happy going to 24 months you would be paying £53 a month, which is very close to what you offered, so as long as you're not hiding any income this should help close the matter in your favour.

Did you tell them about the change of circumstances and asked for things to be backdated?

Have you considered talking to the council about a section 13A write off? If you have no other debts that are non priority or aren't paying those non priority debts due to your strained financial situation this may be a possibility. Details here from DebtCamel:
