Impossible flat tyre.

This was the reasonably sizeable 29x2.4" tyre on my new bike. Had a ride, all was well, parked it in t'garage, went out the following day for another spin, and the front tyre was dead flat. Completely squished flat where it was in contact with the floor.

Sigh. Wheel and tyre offski, tube pulled out, checked inside of tyre for summat that could have come through - nothing. Inflated tube, immersed in water, nothing. Checked valve - nothing. Got my compressor and inflated it up to tractor-tyre size (I exaggerate, but triple normal size), checked again for leaks with water, nothing. Left it overnight - still as big as ten balloons.

What the?

New tube on order, and a can of slime, but what the heck happened?

Nice theory, Lorian. It had a safety cap on, but still a possibility.

Caps leak if valve fails if not done up really tight, been there (cycled to work for years)

Some issue with the valve being pressed/bent when fitted to the rim, causing a slow leak you wouldn't otherwise have seen?

Is the valve a good fit for the hole in the rim? Any rough bits?

Probably worth remounting carefully and keeping an eye on it.

Thanks all. The valve stem is a snug fit in the rim, but seems ok - when under water, I did flex the stem a fair bit to see if the leak was around there.

It remains a mystery, but bottle of slime arrived 20 minutes ago. New tube due to arrive too. I'll slime the newbie and the existing ok rear.
