The prize:
The winner and guest will stay for two nights, B&B, in a Deluxe room at Matfen Hall, a five-star country house hotel near Hadrian’s Wall in 300 acres of Northumberland parkland. The neo-gothic mansion is home to a Great Hall worthy of a film set, two golf courses and (from September 15) a spa with 18m pool, sensory garden, Roman sauna and steam room.
The hotel has 63 elegant rooms and suites and five bars and restaurants; Emerald has three AA rosettes and serves dishes such as cod served with satay mussels, broccoli and lemongrass.
The prize includes one three-course dinner for two at Emerald, excluding drinks. It must be taken between September 15, 2026, and July 31, 2027, subject to availability and excluding bank-holiday weekends, as well as December 24 to January 1.
