Default now? :(
Good morning,
Please can you help?
In 2018 I took put an aqua card and paid it along with a number ot other creditors until 2022 when it all got too much and entered into a DMP with stepchange.
I paid religiously with stepchange until 2024 when I decided to get ccas and go it alone.
Ive paid every month since albeit a lesser amount.
3 of my debts went to Link financial.
The only letters ive had have been odd sum of arrears ones but the aqua card just always showed as normal under link.
A couple of months ago on my credit report it showed as closed with a zero balance.
It doesnt show any missed payments just that payments were ok in 2024 and nothing ahow9ng for payment s since (no missed ones etc) and was last reported in 2024.
Here's where im kicking myself - mentally ive.been feeling so much better and havent had any Defaults in 4 years
I stupidly emailed link last month to ask the status of my account - i was wondering if it had been sold on or miraculously wiped as it showed closed and £0.
No reply from them but this week ive had a credit report email from clearscore and a new default has been added for this credit card and my credit score has plummeted.
Ive worked.so hard to get.my credit score up and tohught all my debts and defualts would be done by 2030.
Can they do this? Can' the defualt.be back dated?
Who can I go to for help?
So upset with myself.for highlighting it to them and ending up with a 2026 defualt. The balance is 2.3k and I religiously pay £5 on the 1st as that is what I can afford.
Sorry for.the typos just really upset.

Have Link and the other creditors been able to produce the CCA agreements?
Yes you can ask for the default to be backdated. to the date link bought the account.0 -

Any buzz words to use to help get them to do that?

You need to approach this as a formal complaint, quoting FCA guidelines to Link, which are:
"defaults can be registered after between 3/6 missed contractual repayments"
Link have not followed guidance in this case, and defaulted you much later than they should have done, and as you have been paying this debt on a regular basis, this has left you in an unfair position.
Your credit file will be affected for a much longer period, than say an individual that has ignored their debts completely, and not paid anything, they would likely have been defaulted much sooner.
You want Link to backdate the default to the purchase date of the account ideally.
