localpensionspartnership.org.uk - Who are they?
I have received an email from the lppa (as they call themselves), but am unsure whether they are an independent organisation regarding my previous local government contracts, or a private company looking to invest such in their interest (I have had brown envelopes with "official" letters about my pension previously from a private company).
The 'interweb's response is a bit "Riddle me this, riddle me that" and doesn't clarify.
Thank-you for any advice.

The domain mentioned in the thread title directs to LPPI, rather than LPPA, and they describe themselves as:
LPPI is a collective of Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) funds that operates as an FCA-authorised AIFM. We manage assets of over £57 billion, as at April 30, 2026.
Our partners include nine pension funds: Avon Pension Fund, The Royal County of Berkshire Pension Fund, Cornwall Pension Fund, Devon Pension Fund, Dorset County Pension Fund, Environment Agency Pension Fund, Lancashire County Pension Fund, London Pensions Fund Authority and Somerset Council Pension Fund.
I'd have thought that they'd be dealing with the funds themselves rather than their members, what was the purpose of the email?

Are you sure it's 'org' rather than 'co' (although both will direct you to the correct website):

Any cold marketing to you about pensions has to be treated as a scam. Regulated companies are not allowed to do cold marketing on pensions.
What was the context of the email?

If OP has benefits in the LGPS, which sounds probable, then this isn't 'cold marketing'.

The tone of the post is vague to what it is and there's inconsistency on who it is from. Scams and dodgy dealings tend to give the impression of being official when they are not. So it always pays to be on guard.

Maybe the OP could say what the email asked them to do - without including any personal details. Then it might be more obvious if it is a scam. Maybe it is asking for them to register with a site and disclose all manner of personal details in doing so.

I couldn't agree more strongly - but in this case, I think if OP has period(s) of LGPS service, then it wouldn't be a surprise if they contacted him about these. LPPA is the admin bit and LPPI the investment arm of the partnership. Probably the most sensible thing to do is for OP to contact his current or most recent local government employer.

LPPA are in the process of emailing their members letting them know that their annual statements are available to view on their Pension Point account.

LPFA = London Pensions Fund Authority = an LGPS administering authority (trustee equivalent) spun off from the GLA and ILEA in the 80s when the GLA and ILEA were closed down.
Local Pensions Partnership (LPP) = LPFA's brand name for their administration 'business', they do both their own funds' admin in house and (under contract or 'shared services agreements' in local govt speak) are the third party administrator for a number of small LGPS funds.
Of course, that the LPP is legit doesn't necessarily mean whoever is purporting to be the LPP actually are the LPP…

Apologies for the VERY late response to this. They were a company who provided very official looking letters and, yes, I thought they looked very dodgy.
Please to be discriminated against by financial institutions. Thank-you for taking advantage of my Dyspraxia.
