with a statement thats provocative when what I understand is just an article about a rumour about a consultation thats probably nothing more than the current plan to report back in 2029..

It's been on the cards since the Cridland review in 2017....nothing to see here.

I've heard* from Rachel Reeves herself that people who post paywalled links to stories on webforums will have their pensions confiscated to pay benefits for asylum seekers!
* Not actually true.

The third state pension age review which was launched in July 2025, is documented in the link below on gov.uk. The current position is that we are awaiting the independent report by Dr Suzy Morrissey on specified factors relevant to the review on State Pension age and the report from Government Actuary’s Department (GAD) to examine the latest life expectancy projections data.
The Work and Pensions Committee on 11th July produced a report covering some of the issues with state pension age increasing. One of the recommendations of that (paragraph 49) was that the government 'publish the report of the third independent State Pension age review by July 2026, so that there can be public debate and critical evaluation of the findings and proposed recommendations before final decisions are made.' That recommendation is to allow discussion of the above reports before the Secretary of State’s own report (something that happened with the first review but not the second). But obviously that is a recommendation not a statement of what will actually happen.
So we await the outcome of the third state pension age review to see what will happen in terms of the increase in SPA to age 68 and whether that will be brought forward from the currently legislated 2044-2046.
