Memorial service costs - IHT deductibility

    I was able to get the costs of my dear husband's memorial event refunded. It was held 2 months after his death, and it was just a restaurant hire cost (though four figures as it was a large event).

    It may have helped that professional executors were handling the estate and they felt able to exercise discretion in refunding this to me from liquid estate funds that they held (long before they even submitted paperwork to HMRC – so they didn't ask HMRC for permission, is my point, which suggests to me they are confident there will be no quibble from HMRC).
