odds-n-sods are you sure riverford wont deliver meat to you yet? I thought anywhere that they or their coop delivered they could get the meat to. Im in an extended area and get my meat from them and they deliver nationwide at a small cost too which is more reasonable than most.

I get an option on the website to order a meat box with my veg.

Thanks you everyone for your post they have all been a good read and very informative.

http://www.riverfordmeatbox.co.uk/in_freezer_steak.html this looks great. Don't have the room to freeze all the meat but in two years time when I get a bigger ktichen and therefore a decent size freezer I will definately try them out.. if they are definately cheeper that the supermarket then this will be the one for me to try...

Also from reading your comments it also looks like I need to go more veggy with my cooking...

Making a chicken last for 5 days in amazing.. this is something I want to know about.. can you list the 5 type of meals that you make with the chicken so that I have an idea of what to do....???

I also get loads out of a chicken, the small one that I got with my riverford meat box did for 2 people:
    3 risottos
    Chicken noodle soup
    Roast
    Pasta
    6 mini chicken pies

I may still have a portion left too.

My parents often use leftovers for currys or a fricasee but ive not tried these options yet myself.

The steak does come highly recommended, ive never cooked or eaten a meal of steak before as I thought it was boring but their stuff is gorgeous. I only have a fridge freezer (freezer about hip height) and as long as I run things down I can fit the meat from a small box in one shelf easily. If you can keep the chicken or joint in the fridge then it will obviously help.

There is also a company called Clares organics which seems to be a little cheaper but it depends on what products you like really. I wonder if anyone else has used them?

  • Costco has good prices on their organic groceries (though they don't have a lot). Dried pasta, tinned tomatoes and tinned chickpeas and kidney beans are all very good prices.

Lidl carry a few organic produce items, like potatoes and carrots and onions, at better prices than Tesco & Sainsbury.

Also, dried peas and beans are very cheap (Costco doesn't carry these though)... recently bought a couple of bags of organic green split peas at ASDA: 38p for a 500g bag.

I want to move to theory. Everything works in theory.
