McCloud RPSS errors and delays

I'm interested to know if anyone else has experienced something similar with their NHS Pension McCloud Remedy.
My pension record dates back to 2001. I worked for one NHS trust from 2001 until moving to another NHS trust in 2021, where I'm still employed and paying into the NHS Pension Scheme.

Around 13 months ago, I contacted NHS Pensions because my McCloud statement figures were incorrect some were going up to 6 million pounds. Since then, I've repeatedly chased for a new statement and updates but have received virtually no meaningful communication or explanation about the delay.

As the issue remained unresolved, I submitted a Stage 1 complaint through the Internal Dispute Resolution Procedure (IDRP). Unfortunately, that didn't resolve the matter, so I've now escalated it to a Stage 2 complaint.
To make matters more concerning, when I recently checked my Total Reward Statement, neither my standard pension estimate (Option A) nor my alternative McCloud estimate (Option B) could be produced. Both now state that an estimate cannot be generated through the automated process. These estimates were available when I checked previously.

I'm still an active member of the NHS Pension Scheme, my pension contributions are being deducted correctly, and my current employment details appear on my Total Reward Statement. However, I'm increasingly worried because I still can't obtain any pension estimates and have had no clear explanation from NHS Pensions.
Has anyone else experienced:
A McCloud Remedy delay of over a year?
Pension estimates disappearing from their Total Reward Statement?
A similar lack of communication from NHS Pensions?
Having to go through Stage 2 or even to the Pensions Ombudsman?
I'd really appreciate hearing about other people's experiences and how their cases were eventually resolved.

My wife works for the NHS (Scotland) and has yet to receive her MCCloud RPSS. She did a retire and return at 60 to claim her 1995 pension 2 years ago and has continued to pay into her 2015 pension / Additional Pension arrangements.

At the point she was 60, they got the 1995 scheme calculations wrong but put these right quite quickly. There is still an outstanding issue though - they based her 1995 payments on her salary for the 2023/24 tax year rather than the 12 months leading up to her retirement (end September 2024). We raised this with them 5 times before receiving any response where they seemed not to understand the problem. Eventually, they advised that payroll had not provided my wife's salary details to perform the accurate calculation and it could not be put right until 12 months after they received the correct details. My wife checked with payroll and made sure the details were provided. We are still waiting for this to be corrected. As the pay increase in 2024/25 was 5% and it will cover 6 months, I reckon she has been getting underpaid around 2.5% with a corresponding increase also to the lump sum.

Her last correspondence on McCloud was last year which was just a holding letter to say they are working as quickly as they can. We have no idea when a RPSS might be issued.

I retired in Oct 2023, taking my 1995 Scheme pension. I have also accrued just over 3 years of 2015 scheme benefits, which are yet to be paid. I have written to NHS Pensions on two occasions and just receive the standard response that I will be contacted in due course.

    The timeline speaks for itself:

The 2022 legislation required NHS Pensions (NHS Business Services Authority) to be be tasked with providing Remedial Service Statements (RSS) by 1st April 2025, which was missed. This was then amended into cohorts (on
their website) with revised dates, which accordingly I should have received by 1st July 2025, but again missed.

There was a further update on 11th Dec 2025, stating that there would be a “revised delivery plan early in 2026” which again didn’t happen. There are now no dates at all on the NHS Pensions website.

Bearing in mind that the McCloud judgement was in 2019 and the legislation passed in 2022, I find it incredulous that 4 years later, so few RSS appear to have been issued. Still less, payments having being made.

Of course, a cynic may suggest that, due to the current public finances, it is very convenient for payments to be delayed for years. Perhaps this is why NHS Pensions is given further and further extensions, rather being held to account.

Given the default is to pay everything under the 1995 scheme until a RSS is issued, it is actually costing them money compared to individuals preferring to choose the 2015 scheme. Hence, I don't think there is anything to your cynical view.

There are obviously more complications to the calculation than you or I can comprehend but it is extremely frustrating not to be able to accurately plan for retirement. The last benefits statement my wife received was in 2022 and was innaccurate because it had failed to pick up her Additional Pension arrangements. She was told not to worry as they would add it the following year, nothing they could do to correct it having been produced….

It means the last accurate view my wife had on her 2015 benefits comes from 2021. Since then, those benefits, excluding Additional Pension, have been reverted to the 1995 scheme and I am having to estimate the benefits she is currently entitled to from my own skills / experience. She is planning to fully retire next year but until the RSS is issued, cannot make a decision on whether this is possible or whether she will need to work longer.
