Holiday booking often involves a balancing act. You might find a bargain that's less convenient, a luxury option that's more expensive, or a flexible booking that offers extra peace of mind.

When it comes down to it, what matters most to you when booking a holiday?

Vote in the poll and share your thoughts in the thread.

My priorities are often direct flights from the UK (even if it takes 15hrs+), the country speaks English (not necessarily first language), and drive same direction as the UK. I like to roam around in a car and go to isolated hard to reach areas, and the language barrier when you're solo lost in the woods and need help is very stressful. But that's what makes a fun holiday 😁

I still travel to places that don't match any of these, but they're my first picks.

Writing from a bargain late availability villa in Corfu: def not bothered about language or which side of the road they drive! Destination is everything - clinched by the fact that it was cooler than at home!
Flight convenience is important, but more so is trying (& usually failing) to avoid Ryanair!

I tend to book the flights first once easyJet release dates to get the best price and then look the best 4star hotel around Black Friday to again get the best price - saves about 40% compared to package deals

    I like variety.

2-3 foreign holidays a year, 8-10 'staycations' mix of quiet areas with good walking spots, national parks, city breaks with tourist attractions, and different cultures with different food. The world is a big place with a lot to explore, both near and far.

I also want to go to places that want me. I've been to Tenerife twice, somewhat reluctantly initially, and found it much better then I expected. A rapid rise in pricing and anti-tourist protests mean it is unlikely I will ever go back. Looking for alternatives for winter sun - so far we've tried Malta and Madeira. Both were cheaper and very welcoming.

I've never been to Venice and never will - due to overtourism and its backlash.

Closer to home, much more personal, and consequently more painful, I love the Highlands. However the animosity towards tourists is growing there as well. I've been to Skye repeatedly, but doubt if I'll ever be back there. I'm keeping it under review - but am certainly less likely to go to the Highlands than before.
