Yes, it's pants, but surprisingly ok. One jab of the brakes and the power cuts. If I really needed to pootle at 5mph, I'd do it manually - my legs still work. But, yes, it's the most basic of basic systems.
The bike itself is great, a real workhorse. So I am considering fitting a KT controller and display over winter which should transform it.
