A few useful tools

Hey,

I'm new here & have just started comping. Since I'm using all your wonderful comp-finding skills, I thought I'd share a few tools I use every day that are also useful for this purpose… someone else may have mentioned them before, but you never know. I'm not allowed to post links yet, but searching these on Google will work just as well.

(I use Chrome on Mac, but I'm fairly sure there are very close alternatives or browser extensions for other setups)

Toby tab management (browser extension): Turns your new tab into a bookmark manager that you can organise, which is great for things you check daily, etc. There is a free version, which is perfectly adequate

Right Click Opens Link New Tab (browser extension): automatically opens any link you right-click in a new tab. Great for opening comps on the forum and reducing clicks. Does mean you'd have to highlight things like email addresses to copy them, but it's a good trade-off. Totally free.

Todoist (a productivity app with a browser extension): Sounds random, but hear me out. With the extension installed, you can right-click anywhere on a page (not on a link - see above) and add a task to Todoist… This will add the link to the page where you created the task. So, if you need to do/check something on a certain date, this makes life 100x easier as you can just click the link in your to-do list. The free version is perfectly adequate for these purposes.

Paste Queue (mac app): Probably my favourite tool ever. It lets you copy all the items you need (unlimited) first, then paste them afterwards, so you don't need to switch back and forth between your source and destination. This is a Mac app that had a small cost (under £10 when I got it). There’s no exact Windows equivalent (though Windows does have a similar-ish built-in option), but a bit of googling will help you find something.

I'm sure I have more, but that'll do for now

Happy comping x
