hmm, who is the robber here? You are taking money from Lloyds that you have not agreed with them.
They are giving you a chance to clear the unauthorised debt which you dont intend to do.
If she walks into the branch on Monday to close the account she will have to clear the debt. So, that isnt going to happen.
The new charging method does have a cap on it. It is £15 a month with between £6 and £20 a day for a maximum of 10 days. Nowhere near the £390 you mention.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). I would disagree with that. I remember a time when if you didn't have the money in your account you couldn't get it out.
These days you can having nothing in your account and still go to a cash machine and get money out of it whether you have agreed it with the bank or not.
We don't actually know how the OP's GF became overdrawn, it could have been an unusaully high bill that was automatically taken by the company, or it could have been her taking money from a cash point without realising there wasn't enough money in the account to cover it.
That doesn't make any difference as in all cases the bank knew how much was in the account and would have know there was not in in the account to cover it. The bank still authorised the removal of the money, and as you said it hadn't been agreed so it is the banks fault for giving money she didn't have. They are giving you a chance to clear the unauthorised debt which you dont intend to do.0 -
Before you lose your head, try ringing the bank and explaining that you cannot find the money, they may give you an authorised overdraft to cover the amount. There is no charge to set one up but you do have to pay interest, although its pittance compared to the unauthorised overdraft charges.0

You will get a better result if you are calmer when you go and see the bank staff. Being rude or misunderstanding how things work may make it all worse.
Fairywings has a good point, talk to the bank and see if they will turn the unauthorised O/D into an authorised one as that will be an awful lot cheaper and will stop them chasing you for the debt in the short term. A small arrangement fee now will save you a great deal of money in the long run.
Be realistic, they are not going to close your account and just wipe off the debt, if you allow the debt to increase they will just chase you for it, so deal with it now as est you can. If you can deal with this in the short term then in the longer term you can claim back any unfair charges as well.
The banks are not crooks for doing exactly what the terms and conditions say they will do, they see a debt and they charge you for it, the best thing is to act rationally and work out the cheapest way of dealing with it and how to get any unfair fees back in the longer run.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
