Gifts in consideration of marriage
According to the HMRC Inheritance Tax Manual, the gift must be made ‘on or shortly before a marriage’.

What qualifies as ‘shortly before’?
Our daughter is getting married in November and she could really do with these funds now.
Is this allowable under the rules?

I don’t see any issue in making your gifts now. Have you made full use of your annual exemptions for this and last year?

Thanks.
Yes we have made full use of our annual exemptions for this and last tax year as well.
Our other daughter is also getting married three months later as well so it’s going to be an expensive year!

the gift will be within the same tax year of the marriage so there is not problem with giving it now as it is clearly in anticipation of the marriage. Just make sure you keep documentation with your estate papers showing date and amount s of the annual exempt sums + marriage limit payments
