Hi,

Has anyone been through the process of applying for a new Irish child passport (not renewal) when living in N. Ireland.

Just wondering how easy it was and how much it cost in total (including all the extra costs with post etc)

Thanks!

I got ours a couple of months back. Other than the passport fee (listed on the above link), I had to pay:

    • £30 plus postage for a long birth certificate (I only had a short one for my child)
    • £30 for a long birth certificate for myself (as an alternative to posting my own UK passport off)
    • £10 postage approx (per application).

It's quickest if you apply online, and then post your documents. The clock starts when they receive the documents and they claim the processing time is 20 working days.

As long as you ensure you have all the documentation correct as stated, it is a straightforward process but in reality it is longer than 20 days, and make sure to add on a week for it to get there, and a week (over cautious) for it to get back to you.

By the time 20 days had passed, they had not even phoned my witness to confirm they knew us, and this is the first step in the process.

Also if they find anything incorrect or missing, they reset the clock to 15 days from they receive the new documents.

All in all it took about 7 weeks from the documents were received, and this was with nothing missing/incorrect

    Thanks spo2

Just seen on the application process that the person who is verifying the identity must be contactable by landline only! No mobile number allowed! 😱

I didn't see that when applying! Ours put down a contact mobile number and that's what they used with no issues
