Parking at work and leg ulcers
Hi
Large company 1200 employees - have leg ulcers being treated for over a year that mean I have to attend tissue viability clinics etc and doctors with any outbreak. I havent a blue badge or pip etc. Asked work if they could provide parking close to where I work as I may have to park 300m away. I spoke to occupational health who supplied a report saying I would likely be classed as disabled and would benefit from such a parking space. The firm is now asking if I claim any benefits and have a blue badge. Is that correct? I have worked for them for 16 years. Does a doctor have to clarify me as disabled if thats what is required. Any helpful comments and advice appreciated.

Without a Blue Badge or whatever evidence they may accept, it may be down to company discretion, and they may not want to set a precedent. You may need to argue a case for your wellbeing equating to reducing absence and increasing your productivity. Perhaps ask for something with a definite timescale for review, or suggest alternatives (that you know they'll dislike) like working from home or them paying a taxi to the door.
When I had significant shoulder issues so couldn't carry a bag far and struggled with heavy turnstyles, I had temporary permission to park close to my office (on a large industrial site) without medical evidence or Blue badge, but I didn't take it for granted when I asked.

As far as ulcers go, how often do you get them & when you are free of them does it effect you mobility?

legs constantly swollen with / without

But does this limit you mobility?
So you mention might have to walk 300mtr. Is that something you can do on a regular basis?

The employer has to make reasonable adjustments, what’s reasonable will massively vary depending on individual circumstances. Getting the Occupational Health recommendation was a good start. Now the line manager need to consider how practicable it is to give you a parking space.
Good luck!

it certainly does - could not walk 300m

So whats the plan if they cannot meet your request? What are you doing now? Would a taxi to work be an option?

Maybe the "best" way forward is to get assessed for a Blue Badge if walking is a daily problem you face
You then have a better case to take to your employer

Is the car park allocated spaces?
Would someone else have to be moved to allow you to park closer?

Best thing is probably to apply to the council for Blue Badge.
How far can you walk?
