Ideas for extra income - advice?

Hi All,

I'm trying to get some ideas for ways to make some extra funds from home. It needs to be flexible, and not require hours of effort for little reward (I'm looking at you survey sites!)

I asked a couple of AIs. They suggested AI training among other things. But this isn't something I know much about. Has anyone tried it? Is it a viable thing or too hit and miss?

I'm aiming to earn about £80 a month from whatever bits I can pick up. Selling on eBay or vinted isn't an option for me, as I don't have anything to sell. My current job is zero hours, very flexible and sporadic, but I love it and want to keep myself available as much as possible.

I guess what I'm really asking is, can anyone recommend ways to earn a bit of extra from home, in odd bits of time? I'm very aware that this is an area that could easily be open to scams.

You could have things to sell if you bought them in.

Many people on the charity shop circuit buy for example BNWT or vintage fashions and then make money by selling on vinted.

What skills have you got? Not just workplace skills, but hobbies as well - do you sew, crochet, knit?

Again thanks for the ideas. I need my parking space for my car but I will look into cashback cards, etc. Due to my uneven income from my seasonally varying job, I don't meet the thresholds for most banks.

I've been looking at designing digital products and selling through gumroad, etc. I can use a computer for basic stuff. Perhaps I'm do a skills audit over the weekend. Thanks for your suggestion.

Have you considered matched betting? There used to a board on this forum dedicated to it but it has long since been removed.

It's a way of extracting the value of the free bets that bookies offer, without actually risking any of your own money.

Sounds like it would fit your bill well - you can spend as little or as much time on it as you like, when you like. You would easily earn more than your target per month.

I did matched betting 10 years+ ago and made over £10k in a couple of years. Nowadays the free bet offers are not as good as they used to be, but I have still made over £5k in about 18 months. HTH.

It is definitely possible to find realistic, computer-based work from home. Consider flexible "micro-working" or freelancing roles where you control your schedule. Here are the most realistic options:

• Data Entry & Transcription: Companies like Clickworker, Appen, or Lionbridge hire remote workers for data entry, micro-tasks, or search engine evaluation. It requires no experience, and you work whenever you want.
  
• Audio Typing: If you can type quickly, platforms like Rev or TranscribeMe pay you to type out audio clips.
  
• Virtual Assistant (VA) Work: Many small businesses hire remote assistants via Upwork or Fiverr for a few hours a week to manage emails, schedule social media posts, or do basic admin.
  
• Customer Service / Live Chat: Many companies now hire remote chat-support agents (so you don't even have to speak on the phone, just type). Look at job boards like Indeed or Remote.co and filter by "Remote" and "Part-time".

Stay far away from anything that asks you to pay for training, buy starter kits, or wrap envelopes at home… those are almost always scams. Legitimate jobs will never ask you for money upfront.

What have you got against doing surveys? I do Prolific and there's usually as much there as you want - have to admit I turn down most of them because I'm only after a bit of extra cash. Have you actually tried them? The US ones, paying in dollars, on Prolific pay a lot more than the UK ones paying in Pounds. Paypal converts it for you automatically so you don't need to worry about it.

dog walking usually pays £15-20 an hour.

i know a lady who actually picks up dogs from home address walks them sometimes even feeds them as owner is away from the house, some even take dogs to the groomers or vets.
