Enhanced DBS check
Hi.
My relative has applied for a job in a school where the employer requires an enhanced DBS check.
At interview he was told he would hear in a few days if he'd be offered the job and, if so, there'd be a 6 month probationary period.
If successful, he assumes the employer would then apply for the enhanced DBS.
Does anyone know how long an enhanced check takes? And would he have to wait for that before he could start work?
His concern is a driving ban 8 years ago but this post is unrelated to driving and he's hoping it won't affect his employment prospects there.

information here
whether he'd have to wait would be down to the employer.
Driving ban shouldn't impact the DBS

Thanks Valli.
The ban stays on DBS for 11 years, even though it's "spent" after 5 years. I think his concern is that even if they employ him pending the DBS check then they may let him go within the 6 month Probationary period if they aren't happy with the check and he'd be unemployed whereas at the moment he does have a job. Maybe he's worrying too much.
Does anyone know how long an enhanced check takes at the moment? I've looked online and there are various timescales and some horrendous stories about it taking months!

I've found the checks have been very quick for me. Normally within a week.

The ban is unlikely to impact the job unless it was for drug driving, even drink driving is not going to be an issue, unless the ban was related to another conviction.
Mine last year, which was by a fresh organisation, came back in four working days.

Thanks Matt.
Unfortunately it was for drug driving. Learned his lesson big style and not touched it since but that won't help. Hopefully gets the job and they're not overconcerned re the driving offence but more with any child safeguarding etc. Fingers crossed!

If he thinks it won’t be filtered out and it will show up on the DBS, did he disclose the ban during the recruitment process?
it looks better if you tell people rather than them finding out another way, if it’s going to show up on the DBS anyway
In my experience, it is more usual nowadays to wait for the DBS before confirming a start date. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Thanks Elsien.
No. He didn't say anything at interview because he mistakenly thought that it wouldn't show up as it was spent after 5 years. Also, he wasn't asked and he didn't give it a thought. He's wondering whether to mention it if they offer him the job and before they activate the DBS check.

How sure is he that it will show up? If he’s 100%, and he’s double checked, I would let them know before the DBS is done.

I believe a drug driving ban would show for 11 years on an enhanced DBS check, from the date of conviction, assuming there was no jail time or such

- has he declared the driving offence that resulted in the ban ?
if not do not pass go , do not collect 200 gbp , offer will be withdrawn
if he as and they've offered the post , it;s probably not an issue
2. you canot 'pass a DBS' it;s not a pass / fail process , obviously the barring lists is slightly different
3. how long a DBS takes is ' how long is a piece of string'
how many different police force areas has the individual lived in the past 5 / 10 / forvever years ?
have they ever been subject of Social services / MAPPA/ Prevent / Channel ?
and then it;s which police force areas as some are better than others at returning 'no trace on local systems' than others as the DBS itself is iirc an authorised user of various centralised systesm so can do those checks themselves
2 - has he declared the driving offence that resulted in the ban ?
