Prove It Letter when you know the debt is an error?
Hi all,
I moved out of my last home in March 2025, where Scottish Power was my energy supplier. I closed my account, and everything seemed fine.
Yet, for some reason i've got a £65 debt attached to my name, and now my credit file shows a missed payment and, hence, default. I contacted Scottish Power; they said they believe the debt is an error too, but they need my credit reports in order to correct it.
I'm currently trying to navigate getting all my credit reports together from all three companies in order to spot the error and respond to Scottish Power. Due to disability/neurodivergence and related burnout caused by my travelling, it's taken me a while to sort this.
Now, a debt company called Opos Limited has contacted me by text and again by phone (I ended up picking up the phone, but they were initially silent, so I hung up just as they started talking. Will that go against me?). I think the debt has been passed to them.
The thing is, because I've moved address, I don't have any letters. Moreover, they've not told me about any of the debt in my contact with them, including the company. the number they used is 01389 493986, so i'm pretty sure this is legit.
I've looked online and the Prove it templates already assume you have the details. I do have a reference thanks to the text.
How do I engage them? Do I ignore them until I've sorted it with Scottish Power? Or do i respond with some modded Prove it letter to cease contact? all advice would be appreciated.

I'm wondering why SP needs your credit reports. And if they need them why they can't get them themselves. But if that will get the error fixed then you might as well supply them.
Opos is a legit debt agency but can be annoying. I suggest you post a prove it letter to them. Don't ring them or engage in any conversation other than by post and tell them to erase you phone numbers from their systems. They won't care that you hung up on them - it likely happens in every other call they make.
