Long sick
My partner has been off sick since January after a back injury which original was done at work in 2018. it was looked into at the time and they said something about retraining which was never donewhich is ironic as he was training someone at the time. Anyway the hospital think its leading on from that as the original injury herniated disc lumber. And after collapsing at work his manager sent him home, he has seen occupational health physio and they have now redirected him to orthapedics so we are still stuck waiting for a out come he doesnt know if he will still have a job after 6 months sick runs out in July he has worked there for 25 years and was due his 6 months long leave this June and dont know if there even pay him for that . He collapsed at home and we couldnt get him off the floor as he was face down we waited 6.5 hours for an ambulance he spent the night in hospital they sent him home on morphine which he is still on. We are willing to pay for a private MRI scan but dont know who to get the scan sent to with no assigned consultant it is physically making me sick not knowing what were entitled to through work or if the job stays open his manager has made no contact its been my partner updating them

When his occupational sick pay runs out he will be entitled to Statutory Sick Pay and you may be entitled to Universal Credit on top depending on savings and your earnings. When Statutory Sick Pay runs out he should be entitled to ESA again potentially plus UC. Complete the turn2us benefit calculator or contact Citizens Advice for support. As the injury was incurred at work I'm not sure if this changes things in your favour. Good luck as the last thing you need is money worries on top of health worries.

As I understand the job stays open but not indefinitely. They can let you go due to sickness - I don't really know about this and as I understand it it's a long process.

Not necessarily. Enhanced occupational sick pay often includes SSP that would be available for that period. Remember, SSP is paid by the employer, not the Government.

Yes, any contractual payment that is equal to or greater than the SSP due for any day of sickness fulfils the employer's SSP obligation. Towards the end of that period of SSP the employer should issue a form SSP1 and return any fit notes that cover beyond the end of the SSP entitlement. This form gives details of claiming ESA.
