SA Tax return query for new business.

HI,

I setup as a soletrader in August 2007, i have informed the relevant parties, tax, NI etc.

Question is, do i need to send in a Self Assemnet Tax return now eg online by 31st Jan or form by April or does it not count until the next year?

reason i ask is because I downloaded a SA tax return form and it was wanting info for year ending April 2007 which i wasnt even in business then.

Any help would be good as still learning about all this.

thanks

Your first return won't be issued until April, due back to HMRC by 31/1/09.

thats what i was beginning to think, thanks for confirming that. :D
  • I too registered as self-employed in August 2007, and have received a letter asking for me to complete a tax return. Should I just ignore the letter?

No. Call HMRC and ask them to clarify whether a SA return is necessary for 2006-07, and if so why?
