I can’t find my Topshop pension
I worked for Topshop (The Burton Group) from 1986 until 1996. I’ve have gone through several pension tracing providers and have come back with no results. I was 21 when I first started in 1986. Has anyone managed to find their Topshop pension around those times?

Did you follow this process? If so, what did the pension provider say when you contacted them?

Are you sure that you opted into it in the first place? Just because I know at 21 paying into a pension, was not top of my list of priorities.

Pedant alert - it's could have not could of.1 -
In 1986 employees rarely had to opt in, because membership of the company pension scheme could be a condition of employment.
The more pertinent question is whether OP opted out in 1988, when employers lost the right to make membership compulsory. If they did, then it's quite possible they didn't meet the 'vesting' period - the right to have a deferred pension. The minimum period of scheme membership was 5 years; that period reduced to 2 years for leavers on or after 6 April 1988. OP, does that ring any bells as a possibility?
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!0 -
Just to check, are you sure you were paying into the pension? Do you have any payslips from that time with appropriate deductions on them?

Payslips from 40 years ago....? Wouldn't show deductions if someone had been in a non-contributory scheme, although the NI letter might be revealing!
