Warning on revenue inspection with apple pay and express transport.
The gist is that if you have one card on your apple pay set as the express transport card and a different as your default apple pay card, when you meet a revenue inspection you need to change over the card that is checked in your apple pay to the card used for your express transport. Otherwise you risk a default charge or at worst a penalty fare!

You can still show you paid in the recent paid items history, at least if it's anything like Google - go to cards, click on the card, shows recent payments, then click on the payment and it shows the time
Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

This isn't about proving you've paid, it's about being charged a penalty fare within the system because the device used by the revenue inspector will look at your default payment card and not thr express transit card (if it's different). There's no warning of this or any alert, so you'll only see the issue once the payments are processed

Doesn't matter, all this default/penalty charging just happens despite you having paid correctly. You are then in appeal/complaint/refund territory.

I had an inspector on a train on Friday in London. My apple pay and express cards are different, so I just double clicked and then select the card for express travel and it beeped through fine. You just have to select the right card from your Apple Wallet

Exactly the issue, you knew to select the right card. Would everyone? IMHO the inspector needs to tell the customer this information. Otherwise the customer could get an max daily charge or similar charge on the card that is their default.

Yes - tbf I was nearly fined on the tram once for this exact scenario, then I assumed their machine would 'read' the card the same way the barriers do but it used the default like a shop not travel. And 'round here inspectors tend not to be v friendly, assume as they're catching so many dodgers!

Also apple phones still work for payments when they are 'flat' as they reserve a bit of battery for contactless. If youre in that scenario you cant change your card so there's no way round it.
