Which address?

My friend uses her parents’ address for all her banking but lives in private rented accommodation. When completing an application for a loan, should she use the address that she currently lives at or her parents where her credit is registered?

She should not be using her parents address for finance whilst living elsewhere.

Lenders can and do profile potential borrowers against their postcodes. Your friend should declare their actual living arrangements honestly, not doing so could be fraudulent.

You say your friend's "credit" is registered at her parents' house. is this an existing loan or credit card? Your friend should have changed her address with her bank(s) and with other official bodies (council tax, driving licence, electoral register).

Mismatches on address will likely lead to loan declines because of ID failure.

I agree with what others have said but add that banks can accept "mailing addresses" but that is normally for someone who is between permanent living places or is actually homeless. And normally only when the individual was already a customer before getting into an odd situation. One friend has had to resort to having a mailing address because otherwise his post would not be delivered at all. The banks he deals with is aware of where he actually lives.

I lived in rentals for 15 yrs, my parents address was what I used for all my finances until I bought my house late 2024.

Credit reporting companies know when you have bills registered at another address. I never had credit check issues. For some reason they've lost track of me now!
