OP hasn't been back since 3 June, when they first posted this query.
Perhaps they rang RM pensions to be told that, as his benefits were accrued pre 2012, they are classed as public sector unfunded and therefore not able to be transferred to a DC scheme. Full stop.
Sadly, not all posters return with updates.
