Council Tax Challenge Query

I have checked my council tax band via the steps listed, it does suggest that we are currently paying the correct amount, however, as part of this is based on what it should have been in 1991, I'm not sure if it's actually incorrect? this valuation check seems to suggest we are paying too much but our house has had an extension since this time and I'm not sure if this would be taken into account when assessing our band? any suggestions?

Depends who did the extension….if you did the extension then there should be no impact to the council tax band whilst you are living there and there may be an 'improvement indicator' that will result in the banding being assessed should the property be sold so the next owner may be in a higher band

If you purchased the property with the extension it is likely the band increase was already done when it first changed ownership after the work.

So (assuming that by saying ' moved in' you mean that either you, your landlord or a previous buyer purchased it from whoever did the extension) the council tax band will have been reassessed at that point to take account of the extension.

Not necessarily, a lot of extensions were never picked up by the VOA. Depending on how long ago OP moved in, the VOA may not have got round to re-assessing yet
